If you are like me and left the Deep Creek area for the metro area sometime late yesterday afternoon you might still be asking yourself why you didn't stay an extra day. Well the 4th of July not being one of the typical big travel holidays you tend to think of (because it generally doesn't conveniently adjoin a weekend as it did this year) I wrongly thought traffic would not be so bad Sunday afternoon. Big mistake!! A couple of extra hours later we arrived wishing we had not left. Let this be a lesson to all, stay the extra day next time whether it is Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Presidents' Day, MLK Day or any other holiday that might add to weekend travel. Don't make the mistake that I made.
You'd think with all the complaining about $4/gallon gasoline some people would stay home, but those of us stuck on I-70 yesterday could only be so lucky. Maybe at $6/gallon or maybe $10/gallon. I keep waiting to find out where the breaking point is but every time traffic seems to be diminishing a bit I have plenty of time ponder the notion while surrounded by Suburbans, Escalades, Expeditions and Tahoes as I was yesterday afternoon/evening. As our President once said we are addicted to oil and apparently addicted to sitting in traffic too.
