And one more blog for good measure ..

this one was started up in August of this year by the trio of Matt Davidson, Brendan McMahon and Justin McMahon. Some places it's called Deep Creek Vacay, others Deep Creek Vacation, and its stated purpose is to be everything you need to know about Deep Creek Lake and more. I have not read all the material there but they have a lot of pictures from one of my favorite spots, Swallow Falls, and a lot about ASCI. Apparently the success of The Deep Creek Blog has spawned quite a few new blogs including this one which seems to be quite similar.

Don't forget to check back to Dan's Deep Creek Blog for future updates.

My parents have owned a place at Deep Creek since the 1960’s and I remember the lake as a little girl. I have practically watched the lake area be chopped up and developed right in front of my eyes. I was happy when I found your site and thought that you were a positive voice for slowing tourism and slowing development. Why have you recently supported a real estate developer who chopped up a beautiful farm (Ridgetop Valley)? Now you are supporting people who bring extra tourist to the area (the 2 new vacation websites)???? What’s your deal? Are you now pro development? Are you for the Wisp development? What about this new Aqua park on Rt. 219? How much more traffic will it bring each year? Or are you just like everyone else and willing to destroy the peaceful beauty of the area in hopes of obtaining the all mighty dollar?

Thank you for your comments. I do appreciate your thoughts and for the most part share your sentiments. Lately, however, I have been trying to be less critical and give people the benefit of the doubt. Call it the Christmas spirit.

Now to specifically address your points. I was not per se promoting the vacation websites, simply acknowledging their existence in an effort to show that "blogging" in, around and about the Deep Creek area has taken off over the past year. These sites may have something to offer locals and tourists alike and by acknowledging them I can also let my readers know that I am aware of them and that I will be following them in the future. Thus far I have seen nothing objectionable about either, though as I noted one adds little that isn't already on another blog.

When I first became aware of the Ridgeview Valley development I was somewhat skeptical myself but I honestly believe they are trying to do it right. In that I mean they are preserving land, restoring an existing structure, adding community trails and generally trying not to destroy what is peaceful and beautiful about Garrett County. I have not yet visited the site myself so as of now this is only my perception and I will continue to monitor the situation, but from their website their goals are clear. As I said in my very first mention of Ridgeview Valley we shall see if this mission is fulfilled or not so stay tuned. If it is not you can be sure that I will let it be known, but as I said as of now I believe they are going a good job.

So to summarize, yes I am against some development but there is also such a thing as good development and I think we should encourage those who are at least trying to be responsible. Please feel free to share your thoughts on this and other subjects.

Hey Dan,

This is Matt and Brendan from deepcreeklakevacay.com

We have read many of your posts, and see Dans Deep Creek Blog as a strong voice in the community. We also stay on top of the local news at The Deep Creek Blog.

Thanks so much for acknowledging our new blog and our work so far. We really enjoyed our first vacation last year, and have another vacay planned in 2009 as well. Our blog is absolutely a work in progress, but we do see ourselves as being different then what is out there currently.

The Deep Creek Blog has a very good local news skew to it, and I am sure has a ton of loyal local readers, as does yours.

Our blog about Deep Creek Lake aims to helps to do the following, as stated on the site "This site aims to lead potential or current vacationers, residents and business owners to a common information point for the attractions Deep Creek Lake, Maryland has to offer."

For someone with no knowledge of Deep Creek Lake, we hope they see how much fun a vacation there could be, and learn more about what to see, where to go, and what to do.

Keep up the great work!!!

Thanks, Matt and Brendan at DeepCreekLakeVacay.com

Hey guys welcome to the site and thanks for your comments.

Sorry if I "dissed" you with my previous comments. You've probably noticed I have a habit of ruffling a few feathers now and then. As I said before though I really enjoyed your pictures from Swallow Falls. I'll have to check in on your site more often to see what you guys are up to now that I have found it.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
