Not surprisingly the National Association of Realtors political action committee is spending big on this election in hopes of maintaining favorable rules for them. Haven't we all seen the horrible consequences of allowing powerful organizations such as this to buy influence in Congress?

More news from the TheHill.com ..
An op-ed from Joe Dowley that appears in TheHill.com ..
lays it all out there. Mr. Dowley is partner in the Washington office of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP and was chief counsel of the House Ways and Means Committee when Congress last addressed tax reform. His basic message is very similar to what has previously been expressed by this blog and serves as a warning for politicians and citizens alike that we simply cannot maintain the status quo on issues such as entitlements, debt and energy as a few examples.
The new president’s fireside chat will have to be for adult consumption: honest, candid and factual, and it must call upon the best instincts of all us to be willing to share the coming sacrifices for the good of everyone. It should be the moral equivalent of an oral dose of cod liver oil, but it must also leave viewers and listeners some hope that we are really getting our house in order. The new president will have to reach out to strike a chord with citizens such that people will say, “That needed to be said a long time ago. Let’s get on with it!”

I.O.U.S.A.: The Movie
Watch the trailer above and visit the website. You'll likely see and hear a lot of the same messages I've mentioned here on this blog. As one of my readers put it, it's pretty sad that we have to make a movie to have any hope of affecting common sense policy in this country.

No relief for savers ..
One of my regular readers sent an e-mail this afternoon to point me to this piece from AP Economics Writer, Jeannine Aversa. I couldn't have said it any better myself and in fact I believe I have previously echoed her sentiments right here and here on this blog.
There are a significant number of people reading this blog weekly, if not daily now, so if any of you have something you'd like me to mention just send an e-mail or leave a comment here on the blog and I will take a look at it. And even if you're not from the Deep Creek Area or particularly interested in the Deep Creek Area please feel free to share your thoughts as well. I mention this because in the last week alone, we've had visitors from 36 different states and 5 countries and as always all opinions are welcome here.

America for Sale ..
With the news that an American icon, Anheuser-Busch, may be sold to a foreign company, Belgium's InBev, I thought I would provide a link to this editorial by Fortune senior editor-at-large, Geoff Colvin, in which he predicts more of the same unless we change our ways. The last three paragraphs are especially worth reading and the final paragraph does offer a ray of hope as seen below, but as is generally the case it is completely up to us to change our bad behavior.
"We can turn our situation around by saving more and spending less, and market forces, such as a weakening dollar, will help us do that. But every day we don't, the hole we have to climb out of gets a little deeper."
If you don't want your children and grandchildren to be working as indentured servants for foreign investors and oil tycoons maybe you should consider what you can do today to prevent this from happening. In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, "each one must do his part" and for my part I hope to encourage others to wake up and make changes.

Paulson goes begging ..
Another interesting video and story from Yahoo! Finance. Make sure you turn the sound on to hear their frank and to the point message that things need to change in a lot of respects including conservation. I applaud these guys for trying to educate the American public that we got ourselves into a big mess by borrowing far too much and being far too wasteful and need to give up begging the Middle East for help every week and start doing something to help ourselves. Hopefully the editor of the Republican Newspaper sees this as well, maybe he could gain a new perspective on why oil prices are where they are.
